The Spruill Farm Fun Paddle

On October 24th, the Washington County Historical Society will host a paddling event called the “Spruill Farm Fun Paddle.”  The paddle will go from Mackey’s Marina to the Spruill Farm Conservation Project.  Once at Spruill Farm, paddlers will go on a guided tour of the farm.  However, if paddlers would like to spend additional time on the water, they can go on an extended route.  The event will end with paddlers paddling back to Mackey’s Marina.  In the end, this will be a 5 to 7 mile paddle (depending on whether or not you take the extended route).

In the event of high winds, an alternate route will be used.  The alternate route starts at Mackey’s Marina and goes up Kendrick’s Creek.  Paddlers will then come back down Kendrick’s Creek and end at Mackey’s Marina.

Paddlers will not go hungry at this event.  A light breakfast will be provided before paddlers strike out on the water.  A full lunch will be served once paddlers return to Mackey’s Marina.

Participants will leave the event with a commemorative t-shirt.

Don’t have a canoe or kayak?  Rentals will be available, however, you will need to reserve them in advance.  To reserve a boat call Heber Coltrain with Roanoke Outdoor Adventures at 252-809-9488.

Tickets are $35/person.  Tickets pay for breakfast, lunch, commemorative t-shirts, the use of Mackey’s Marina, and a safety boat during the paddle.  In addition, $5 of your ticket will go to the Spruill Farm Conservation Project.
